Grandson Time and the Beauty of Coming Home

Last week, we had the absolute joy of spending time with our grandson and watching him play baseball. There is something special about cheering from the sidelines, soaking in the sunshine, and catching that little spark in his eyes every time he steps up to the plate. Those moments remind you how fast time moves and how important it is to be present when it counts.

One of our off days included a trip to Dave & Buster’s. Loud, bright, and a bit overwhelming, especially for Grandma. If you know, you know. But watching him light up as he raced from game to game made every flashing light and blaring sound worth it. His excitement was contagious, and for a little while, the chaos became part of the fun.

That experience got me thinking about travel. Big trips can feel a lot like that day. New sights, unfamiliar places, busy schedules, and moments of sensory overload. There’s excitement and adventure around every corner, but it can also be a lot to take in.

And just like after a full day out, there’s something incredibly comforting about coming home. Sleeping in your own bed, enjoying the quiet, and easing back into familiar routines. Travel gives you that same balance. The thrill of exploring something new is paired with a deeper appreciation for the comfort of home.

Sometimes it’s the contrast that makes the experience complete. The adventure wouldn’t feel as special without the calm that follows, and the quiet moments wouldn’t feel as cozy without a little excitement before them.
